DPM 2012 R2 synchronizations fail after 1hour 20 min. Error Code 60

Clean install of both Server 2012 R2, DMP 2012 R2, and SQL 2012 SP1

Everything is patched and current.

However, all backup jobs fail after 1 hour and 20 min with: The protection agent on MYDPMSERVER.WTF was temporarily unable to respond because it was in an unexpected state. (ID 60 Details: Internal error code: 0x809909B0)

This happens regardless of the server OR client i'm attempting to backup.  Backup jobs WILL complete successfully, if the amount of data is being backup'd up can be moved in under 1 hour and 20 min.

Anyone having a similar issue?  I'm at a total loss.

Tapes with expired content not registering as expired

I'm running DPM 2012 SP1 and have several tapes I'd like to reuse as I believe they are expired but I cant mark them as free.

When I view tape contents I see the backup expires date is well past so I don't understand why the tape is not showing as expired.

I've run the ForceFree-Tape.ps1 against the tape(s) to no effect so I'm wondering what to do next.

Does anyone out there have any pointers?

Cheers, David

WINSXS: The system cannot find the path specified

Would you have any suggestions to help me resolve the error, "DPM encountered an error while performing an operation for\\?\Volume(....)\Windows\winsxs\ onThe system cannot find the path specified." while performing a Consistency Check?

I performed the following troubleshooting steps, however they all failed:

1. Re-ran the Consistency Check

2. Re-ran Create Recovery Point with Synchronization

3. Excluded the Windows\Winsxs directory

4. Excluded the entire Windows directory

Your help is very much appreciated.  Thank you in advance.

- Jenna

Note: Syncs and Recovery Points have been working for this C volume for several months.

An unexpected error occurred while the job was running. (ID 104 Details: The parameter is incorrect (0x80070057)) After DPM 2012 SP1 to R2 Upgrade

Hi,

We have upgraded DPM 2012 SP1 to DPM 2012 R2 and OS is Windows 2012 standard.

Now in File Protection Group, we receive error"An unexpected error occurred while the job was running. (ID 104 Details: The parameter is incorrect (0x80070057))".

Image may be NSFW.
Clik here to view.

This happens to only one Drive(X: Drive) of the PG server, other drive(Z: Drive) backup is working fine.

We tried,

  1. Deleted entire protection group and recreated ,
  2. Ran consistency job 2 to 3 times.
  3. Ran Synchronize with consistency check.

But every time It failed. Before upgrade it was working fine.

Thanks

Recovery points failing on 2012 R2 x64 virtual server via DPM 2012 R2 x64 - The parameter is incorrect (0x80070057)

I'm getting this on only one of my many virtual servers for some reason.. i've dug around.. i saw there may be a "private" fix for this issue..

The specific message is:

The replica of Volume D:\ on server02.domain.local is inconsistent with the protected data source. All protection activities for data source will fail until the replica is synchronized with consistency check. You can recover data from existing recovery points, but new recovery points cannot be created until the replica is consistent.

For SharePoint farm, recovery points will continue getting created with the databases that are consistent. To backup inconsistent databases, run a consistency check on the farm. (ID 3106)

An unexpected error occurred while the job was running. (ID 104 Details: The parameter is incorrect (0x80070057))

This is not a sharepoint server..

Any thoughts here

EDIT:

I am not seeing any indication of errors on the event viewer of the server being backed up..

No Previous versions available (DPM 2010/12)

Hi All,

My users do not see any previous versions. On server SERVER I have a share SHARE, and within share SHARE I have a folder named FOLDER. The share is protected by server DPM. They are part of the same domain.

If I browse to the share \\ SERVER\SHARE directly and I get the properties of FOLDER, and hit the tab 'previous versions', I see the message "There are no previous versions available".

If I browse to the share on the DPM server \\ DPM\server.domain.local_share and get the properties of FOLDER, and hit the tab 'previous versions', I see the previous versions based on the schedule I implemented.

This happens on a DPM2010 and DPM2012 installation. I reran the EUR deployment a few times now, but to no result better than this.

Anyone has an idea what might cause this?

Best regards,

Ronald

Restoring shares

I am backing up several servers with DPM 2012 SP1. Some of the folders on these servers are set as shares. When I restore the volumes or the folders the share information is not restored. This happens on Windows 2008R2 and 2012 servers. Does DPM restore shares?

Protection of a DeDuplicated Volume

Can DPM 2012 SP1 installed on Server 2008 R2 protect a deduplicated volume on a Windows 2012 R2 file server?

Windows NT Server version 4 backup on the DPM 2012 server

Hi,

Is there a way to backup Windows NT Server 4 (running on a microsoft virtual server 2005) on the microsoft Data protection server 2012 backup?

Adding Scale-Out File servers to DPM2012 SP1

One of our file clusters hosts a couple of 'normal' file servers and Scale-Out file servers. The cluster contains 2 virtual servers running Windows Server 2012.

Our DPM 2012 SP1 server runs on a HP StoreEasy 1630 and is already protecting the 'normal' file servers. The only problem we have is that the Scale-Out file servers can't be added as a protected resource. This is what we try to do:

- Modify the Protection Group

- Expand the file cluster

- Expand the cluster resource (one of the scale-out file servers)

- The hourglass stays there for a bit while he's scanning the resource (?), ends up with nothing and there's nothing to add

This problem occurs only with the scale-out file servers and not with the other file server cluster resources in the same cluster. I've tried to clear the cache (in the same window as adding the resources) but that didn't have any effect.

Is there anything I missed or are there some compatibility issues?

What’s the best way to backup DFS using DPM 2010?

We setup DFS on two Windows 2012 R2 and they are hosting files. What’s the best way to backup DFS using DPM 2010?

1. When doing data backup, do we backup both dfs01 and dfs02? Or just backup one of them?

2. Beside the data, what do we need to backup?

DPM 2012 SP1 Rollup5 on Windows 2008R2

It appears that ever since Rollup 5 was installed on our DPM 2012 SP1 server I have an issue. Whenever I click on the Recovery tab I receive an mmc console error and it needs to close. None of the servers show up in the list. The rest on the program appears to be running fine.

Backup Large (20+ TB) Array

Have a question on backing up large drives to tape.   We have a large array (currently approx 20TB) that is used to video storage.   Obviously we can not backup the entire array in a night (or even a weekend), so I was planning on backup up the array over a period of 3 weekends by breaking the up into server protection groups by choosing different folders.

But since I am now finding out that DPM does not allow a drive to be part of multiple protection groups does anyone have suggestions for backup up large arrays like this?

It is not practical for me (nor would the video production team allow me)  to rebuild the array into a bunch of smaller drives.

Thank you,

Eldon

System Center 2012 R2 Data Protection Manager Update Rollup 1 failed to install

I have the error described in this thread:

http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/b53b82b1-639b-4561-9ed2-f9749abd84f8/dpm-2012-r2-an-unexpected-error-occurred-while-the-job-was-running-id-104-details-the-parameter?forum=dpmfilebackup

This caused me to look in the update history to see if the update had automatically been installed but the history stated that the rollup failed to install on 30th Jan 2014.

So I'm trying to install the update manually. Quick question, one ends up with four executables:

"Detectoid for System Center 2012 R2 - DPM Central Console Server-all-dpmcentralconsoleserver-kb2904687_a62a72e0c0dc1573def4475b021924f1efad9777.exe"

Do you run them all or just one of them? The instructions didn't seem very clear.

Thanks, Rob.

Why does DPM server send tens of MB of data to DPMRA.exe client when beginning synchronization?

Consider this test:

Remote Laptop

 - connected to DPM server over a WAN VPN

 - DPM Remote Agent (DPMRA.exe) installed

 - The only protected items are approximately 13 GB of user data

 - Protected user data consists of a combination of a few small files from 500kB to 40MB, a 3GB iso, and a 5GB flat file.

 - Protected items were initially syncronized over LAN

DPM Server

 - DPM 2012 R2 with colocated SQL Server

 - Windows Server 2012 R2 Hyper-V Guest

The Test

1. Make any change to the contents of the 5GB flat file, for example, changing the value of one byte.

2. Initiate Syncronization.

3. Measure the amount of data sent from the DPM server to the DPM client. (Important: The opposite direction you'd think the data should go to be backed up.)

My Results

For this test, I measured approximately 13MB sent from the DPM serverto the DPM client.  When I increased the flat file from 5GB to 10GB, that measured value increased to 40MB.

This seems like a rather large amplification of data transfer (1 byte changing precipitates tens of MB transferred).

The Question

Why does this happen?  How can I avoid it for large flat files?

Unable to restore system protection

Hi

I have DPM server 2012 R2 and I have created a System restore protection of a Windows 2012 servers.

The system restore included BRM ,system state and Volume C:.

When I look ant the protection of the servers I see the System State and BRM and C:\ are backup OK.

When I try to restore the Data the console does not display recovery dates . Retention time is 5 days .

It look as is there are no recovery point available.

Can anyone tell me why and how can I access the data on the DPM server manually so I can restore a server.

Thanks

Help to understand the difference

Please forgive me for my English
I learn DPM 2012
And I have a question what is the difference between File Recovery points and Express Full Back UP
1. They both work as both incremental back up? Recovery Points or works as a differential back up and Express Full Back Up as incremental back up.
What is the difference between them?

For quite a long time I can not find the answer to your question
Thanks in advance for your reply

Can DPM backup a deduped volume in an unoptimized state?

We have DPM 2012 R2 running on Server 2012 R2, backing up our file servers with Server 2012 R2.  We have deduplication on for all the servers, and DPM is backing up the file servers in their optimized state. Great, except that you can't use secondary protection for deduped volumes.

Can I tell DPM not to back up the volume as a deduplicated volume, but instead have it store the rehydrated files?
