In this table I don't see any options how to do that.
How to set recovery points for files once a month?
Unable to restore files to original location
I am attempting to do some test restores from DPM 2012 SP1. I have multiple servers and guest VM's protected both as servers and as VM's. When I try to restore a single file to the original location on the file server (Windows 2008 Guest OS), the restore fails with the following error:
Affected area: D:\
Occurred since: 11/11/2013 2:47:15 PM
Description: The recovery jobs for Volume D:\ that started at Monday, November 11, 2013 2:40:08 PM, with the destination of fileserver.internal.com, have completed. Most or all jobs failed to recover the requested data. (ID 3111)
DPM failed to communicate with DPM.internal.com because the computer is unreachable. (ID 41 Details: No such host is known (0x80072AF9))
More information
Recommended action: 1) Make sure that DPM.internal.com is online and remotely accessible from the DPM server.
2) If a firewall is enabled on DPM.internal.com, make sure that it is not blocking requests from the DPM server.
3) If you are using backup LAN, make sure that the backup LAN settings are valid.
On the Jobs tab in the Monitoring tasks area, group jobs by type to view details of the recovery jobs.
Retry the recovery job...
Note that the communicatons failure is with the DPM server itself! A restore to an alternative location on the DPM server succeeds very quickly, but trying to restore to the file server fails. Here is information on the environment:
DPM: Windows 2012 Guest VM running on Windows 2012 Host. It has a static IPv4 address for both the data and backup VLANs. The Windows firewall is disabled.
File Server: Windows 2008 (R1) Guest VM running on Windows 2008 host. It has a static IPv4 address for the data VLAN only. It is running McAfee AV with an exclusion for the DPM directories. The Windows Firewall is disabled.
I can ping back and forth between the two servers, and I've run the RPC and Webcon tests with no errors. I've enabled and disabled IPv6 with no change. Can anyone tell me what I can look at next?

How to protect different folders in the same disk volume with different rules?
I need to set different times and days for recovery points on each folder in the same disk. How to do that?
DPM 2012 R2 - An unexpected error occurred while the job was running. (ID 104 Details: The parameter is incorrect (0x80070057))
Since upgrading to DPM 2012 R2 from DPM 2012 SP1 UR3 I am having problems with 2 replicas within 2 different protection groups. I am trying to run the consistency check that is required after upgrading the version of DPM and it keeps failing to complete and give the following error:
An unexpected error occurred while the job was running. (ID 104 Details: The parameter is incorrect (0x80070057))
Obviously because the replicas are still in an inconsistent state, they are not being backed up. I have other replicas within the same protection group that are backing up fine (after having completed the consistency check)
Any ideas on how to resolve this?
DPM 2012 SP1 and Dedup on Server 2012
Hi,
We recently built a new DPM 2012 SP1 server (4.1.3417.0) and built new File Servers with Server 2012 in order to leverage the Deduplication feature. These File servers are connected using DFSR, so we only back up the primary server at our main office. Unfortunately the data drives on this central server continually come up as inconsistent.
The following is an example of the error obtained:
- The replica of Volume E:\ on DIVFPS-2012A.hfcrd37.local is inconsistent with the protected data source. All protection activities for data source will fail until the replica is synchronized with consistency check. You can recover data from existing recovery points, but new recovery points cannot be created until the replica is consistent.
- For SharePoint farm, recovery points will continue getting created with the databases that are consistent. To backup inconsistent databases, run a consistency check on the farm. (ID 3106)
- An unexpected error occurred while the job was running. (ID 104 Details: The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process (0x80070020))
I found this in the DPMFilterTrace.log. Not sure what this means. I did have to go into the System Volume Information folder in those drive, but I only added permissions.

DPM 2007 Version 2.0.8868.0 not compressing File server PG before sending to LTO 3 standalone tape drive.
Hello Experts,
We have DPM 2007 installed on Server 2008 x64 SP2, and we have a Quantum LTO 3 standalone tape drive, We are using LTO 2 tapes as they are compatible.
The issue im having is that the LTO 2 tapes only gets filled just below half way to maybe 197GB. Since our File PG is setup to compress data then the tapes should be taking on atleast 390GB compressed but the compression does not seem to be working.
So to troubleshoot below is what i have done so far.
- Made sure the drives and the firmware is up to data for the LTO 3 tape drive.
- Confimred DPM 2007 supports LTO 3 drives.
- Used a brand new LTO 2 tapes to see if that makes any differance.
- Set the File PG not to compress or encrpt data and then try backing up the PG to tape with same results of around 197GB. It doesnt matter if the comression is set on the PG or not the tape gets filled half way.
- Disable the data compression on the file PG on the DPM server and enabled the Hardware compression at the tape drive level using xtalk management too with out any positive results. Hardware compression keeps disabling it self not sure why.
-I've done pretty much all i could with any positive results. Can you guys please guide me from here as to what could be causing the tape to fill only half way? I would much appriciate it.
Thanks,

I am reposting this issue as I received no response from my original post. Hopefully someone with some experience with DPM will see it this time.

Confused about recovery points & synchronization
Hi there,
I'm relatively new to DPM 2010 and after reading through technet I'm still a bit confused on how DPM file protection recovery points and synchronization works.
I have a share that I'm protecting with recovery points at 8 a.m., 12p.m., and 6p.m. I have synchronization set to 1 hour.
With this configuration I was expecting that my recovery options at 3:30 p.m. would look like this:
8a.m., 12:p.m., 1p.m., 2p.m., 3p.m.
However, I only see 8a.m. and 12p.m. - is this expected? Is the 12p.m. point supposed to be updated by the synchronization so that it's really 3p.m.'s data?
Thanks for any help!
Workstation protection doesnt work after upgrade to DPM 2012R2
Hi, I have big problem with DPM 2012R2 on Windows Server 2012. After upgrade to R2 I found out that all my protection groups of typical workstations (Windows 7) contained old data. In DPM Console at Restore section I can see my protection groups, but I cant see and restore new files, that were created on users PC after DPM server and DPM agents upgrade. Yesterday I created virtual machine with DPM agent and now I can see the same problem. After server create restore checkpoint, at restore section in console there is no any new folders and files. If I do manual checkpoint creation I have the same problem. All synchronization processes on client work good, DPM server says OK on protection group and on client management. But new files don't add to server.
Please help!
P.S. Sorry for my English!
Need DPM to recalculate space requirements
Hi,
I'm running a test install of DPM 2012 on a 2012 server before rolling out to a permanent server. I've got a test file share on a Windows 2008 R2 server and want to just test setups and recovery.
Initially I chose two file shares and system state. I didn't realize that one of the file shares included a subfolder of a current Windows Backup file (> 300gb) so I created another share with a 25gb subset and included the other share. I cancelled out of the wizard never having gotten past the file size estimate.
The problem is that when I go back to create a new data protection group DPM will not recalculate the requirements. It consistently shows the original requirements of >300gb when now I'm only protecting ~30gb.
I've restarted the service on the destination machine. Tried removing the datasources xml file to see if it would recreate it but it doesn't appear that it will. Must happen on install.
Anyway, ideas on what I need to do to get this to recalculate the requirements?
Thanks,
Jerry
AutoHeal-Is Auto-reRun enabled by default for DPM 2012 SP1?
Is the Auto-Heal feature "Auto-rerun" enabled automatically by default for DPM 2012 SP1?
An auto-heal blog states (http://blogs.technet.com/b/dpm/archive/2011/06/06/how-to-use-and-troubleshoot-the-auto-heal-features-in-dpm-2010.aspx) that there must be settings in the registry for this feature to run such as:

bitlocker command to unlock drive doesn't work
hi friends
i encrypted a data volume (E:) via bitlocker & i saved the recovery key file (for example saved as F:\file.txt) on another drive.
now i want to unlock that drive with this recovery file via command line , but the following commands which are based on manage-bde help examples (manage-bde /?) don't work :
manage-bde -unlock E: -recoverykey f:\file.txt
also i ranamed that text file which contains recovery key from file.txt to file.bek & then ran the following command , but again doesn't work:
manage-bde -unlock E: -recoverykey f:\file.bek
what is the cause?
thanks in advance
what manage-bde command to let encrypt windows drive whithout having TPM chip
i need a batch file to encrypt windows volume & i don't have TPM chip in my computer.
before running manage-bde -on c: ... command, i need a command so that Allow bitlocker encryption on drive C without having TPM chip. (a command that acts lick group policy , computer config , administrative templates , windows components, bitlocker drive encryption, require Additional Authentication at start up , allow bitlocker without compatible TPM"
what manage-bde command provide this for me ?
thanks in advance
Unable to backup file server with DPM 2012R2
Hello. I've got some strange problem file backing up a file service with DPM 2012R2.
File server - Windows 2012 R2
DPM server - Windows 2012 R2 with DPM 2012 R2
DPM storage - IBM DS3524
The backup lasts for about 11 hours, transfers about 1,7 TB (full file share size is about 11TB) and stops with event 104 ID (The parameter is incorrect (0x80070057)).
In DPM log I see:

I've assigned the letter to the drive to which DPM was backing up, found the last file (the size was 0) and copied this file from the source without any problem.
This problem occurred several times with different storages for replica. Unfortunately previous logs went away so I cannot say that it stopped on the same file, but the error "Data corruption near MTF DBLK" was the same.
When the file server was on Windows 2008 R2 and DPM was 2012 SP1 there were no problems with backup.
Veeam comparison with Microsoft System Center products
Dear All,
I have an urgent query regarding product comparison. I need your assistance to kindly provide any comparison on Veeam data backup and replication vs Microsoft System Center products. Moreover also highlight the points that Microsoft product is covering all the features offered by Veeam backup and replicaiton software.
Your prompt action and quick response would be highly appreciated.
Thanks in advance
File backup and restore
Hi,
Can anyone please help me understand the below:
How DPM will backup files from client machines? Technology used ( snapshot based? )
What are the backup options available?
Is there a way to backup files whenever they change?
If so, is there a way to backup only the incremental backup (delta changes done on that file) ?
Quick reply is highly appreciated!!
Thanks and Regards,
Soma
DPM Recovery job keeps failing with semaphore timeout error
Hi
I've started a recovery jon from a DPM 2010 server to a virtual machine which has to transfer about 600GB of data. It keeps failing every 7-8 hrs with the following error:
The DPM service was unable to communicate with the protection agent on DPMserver.domain.com. (ID 52 Details: The semaphore timeout period has expired (0x80070079)).
The ESXi hardware on which the VM is hosted is new, the DPM server also is 6 months old and has no network issues. The two servers are hosted in the same DC. Please help.

How to Open the FailedFilesLog.txt File (statement), and How to Increase the 100 File Limit (question)
It took us a while to figure this out, so I'm posting this in case it's helpful for someone out there. Plus, I have a question...
DPM gave the following error for one of our file servers:
Description: The replica of Volume D:\ on <servername> is inconsistent with the protected data source. Number of files skipped for synchronization due to errors has exceeded the maximum allowed limit of 100 files on this data source (ID 32538 Details: Internal error code: 0x809909FE)
Recommended action: Review the failure errors for individual files from the log file \\?\Volume{8492c150-f195-11de-a186-001cc4ef89a0}\B1E9D373-2C03-464E-A472-99BC93DB1E2A\FailedFilesLog.txt and take appropriate action. If some files fail consistently, you can exclude the folders containing these files by modifying the protection group or moving the files to another location.
So, how do you actually open the FailedFilesLog.txt file shown in this DPM alert? What is this path referring to? Well, this is the mount point for the protected server's replica volume on the DPM server, which is mounted under \Program Files\Microsoft DPM\DPM\Volumes\Replica\servername\File System. Here you'll see the mount points for all of the server's protected volumes. However, if you try to open one of these mounted volumesin Windows Explorer, you'll get Access Denied, even if you have administrator rights. (If someone knows of a way around this, please let me know). As a workaround, you can access this mounted volume in an elevatedcommand prompt. Steps:
- Open an Administrator Command Prompt
- Type mountvol <AnyAvailableDriveLetter>: \\?\Volume{VolumeGUID}
- Example: mountvol m: \\?\Volume{8492c150-f195-11de-a186-001cc4ef89a0} Note that we're only using the first part of the path to the FailedFilesLog.txt file given in the DPM alert, starting from \\? and ending after the} character.
- Next, type m: to change to the newly mounted m: drive.
- Then type cd B1E9D373-2C03-464E-A472-99BC93DB1E2A This is actually a folder name so we're just going into this folder.
- Finally type dir and you should see the FailedFilesLog.txt file. This file can be copied to another location where it's easier to use (i.e. in Windows Explorer).
- Be sure to unmount this volume when you're done by typing mountvol m: /d in the command prompt. (Mountvol reference:http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc772586(WS.10).aspx.)
What a pain, eh? But at least by reviewing the FailedFilesLog.txt file you can determine which files or folders caused the sync to fail and thus take action accordingly.
Now, here's my question: Where is that registry key that lets me adjust the limit of 100 files that DPM allows to be skipped before it fails the replica? Hopefully someone out there will tell me. I know this can be done because Kapil Malhotra said so in this post: http://groups.google.com/group/microsoft.public.dataprotectionmanager/browse_thread/thread/a179fa30fb50c9b0/e9a348f2a9386063?lnk=raot.
Also, does anyone know what the internal error code 0x809909FE means in this alert? Knowing this my help us determine what caused these files to fail. Interestingly, in the FailedFilesLog.txt file, it gave a different error code next to each failed file: 0x80070002.

Setting archive flag
We are thinking about using DPM File Protection to take backup of SQL *.BAK and *.LOG files. But then we need DPM to set the archive flag so the cleaning script would run in a safe way.
How do I make DPM set Archive Flag? I am using DPM 2012 SP1
