Can DPM 2012 SP1 installed on Server 2008 R2 protect a deduplicated volume on a Windows 2012 R2 file server?

Had to rebuild a protected server. Any way to seamlessly connect back to the DPM

DPM 2012 sp1  has been protecting the file server for several years.

unfortunately we had an issue that required a wipe of the protected servers OS. We re-installed the same OS, called it by the same name, but don't really expect the DPM server to start  protecting it just because a server of the same name with the same data appears back on the network.

Is it a case of deleting the protected server server from the DPMs protected group, and then adding it again?

Is it supported to backup a file share on DPM 2012 using the server itself?

Hi,

Can someone tell me if DPM 2012 is capable of backing up it's own file shares?

Is there much mileage in backing up at the folder level as opposed to the file share?

Thanks

A client computer was infected with Cryptowal 3.0 virus.  We quarantined the offending client, but there is many files that have been encrypted.  We tried to restore from DPM 2010 backups, but it seems that there are many files that are still inaccessible even though they were backed up before the infection.  How could the files backed up before the infection be corrupted?  What is wrong with our backup strategy that would allow this?

DPM 21012 R2 Doesn't Restore File Attributes

DPM does not restore the attributes of a file correctly.  For example, we utilize the attributes flag on our files.  Specifically we change the Attribute "A" to "N" on millions of files. (example below)  When restoring data from DPM, it restores the data with an attribute of "A" when is should be "N".  It took weeks to figure this out and recover from it.  Can you please confirm this bug and work on a fix?

(ID 2019 Details: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host (0x80072746))

Running DPM 2012R2 (4.2.1338.0) on Windows 2012 R2 with at latest patch level.

Recently changed the file server and at first we were running with deduplication enabled. After seeing this error (see title) when running backup to tape, we turned deduplication off.

Now deduplication is turned off on the file server but we are still getting the error every time when performing tape backups. There are no issues performing recovery points, synchronizations or consistency checks to disk. We have only had one successful tape backup, just after we migrated to this file server but none since. After running the first few consistency checks DPM fixed thousands of items but now there are no items to correct and the check goes through.

The backup goes to 170 GB and then fail with error: (ID 2019 Details: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host (0x80072746))

As I understand it, the tape backup does not retrieve information from the protected server, instead it shuffles data from the DPM server to the tape loader, so it should not be an issue at the protected server?

Any ideas or suggestions welcome.

Thanks, /M

replace backup disks

I am running DPM on a 2012 R2 server. The backups go to the servers local SCSI hard drives. I want to replace the existing drives with new ones. If I simply take the server down, replace the drives, and bring up the server, will I be able to add the new drives to DPM and have DPM start using them? I don't care about losing the old backups, I just want DPM to create new backups on the new drives. My concern is that DPM will get all confused because it can't see the backups that it created previously. I am trying to accomplish this without having to go through a lot of reconfiguration.

DPM - \\Volume operation error - excluding files on server

Encrypted Files...stories, poems, and resumes needing accessed but cant..

I know others have posted with similar issue - encrypted files that cant be accessed.. My guess is as the others were - that somehow I got a virus my security program did not take notice of, and now I cant access those files. That was before I had other issues with my computer which ended up crashing while running windows 8.1. I thn got a copy of the recovery disks, with which I reinstalled the OS and then once running, re-upgraded back to 8.1 from 8.0. Then I reinstlalled my files that I had managed to save on an external harddrive when planning to do a recovery originally before my computer ended up crashing. Following that re uloading of my files from the external dh, I was able to proceed with the windows 10 upgrade after a few faild attempts, as i had also bene trying to do before the crash. But I am still unable to access those encrypted files, both on my computer aswell as on another I tried accessing them from off the external drive. If anyone knows a decryption program and one that does not prompt me for some password I dont have, I would appreciate the advice. Please contact me via my email: Aussie.Joshua@gmail.com  Thanks in advance and hope this finds you all well :)

Migrate/Consolidate File Servers/Storage

Hi,

I am using SCDPM 2012 R2.

I need to know the procedure to migrate/consolidate file servers and the procedure to migrate/consolidate storage (SAN/NAS).

The questions are:

Is it posible the above without backup loss or re-configure backup for new file servers/storage?

if yes

What are the procedures?

Thanks in advance!

File Server Syncronization Failure - 100 Failed Files

I am having issues several times a week with files servers not synchronizing correctly.  These file servers contain our users home folders.  When it fails I get the following error:

Description:Number of files skipped for synchronization due to errors has exceeded the maximum allowed limit of 100 files on this data source (ID 32538 Details: Internal error code: 0x809909FE)

When I check the failed files log it will give me a list of files (office documents and images etc) all failing with error code 0x80070005

I have ensured the DPM server its self is up to date and that the agents are up to date.  I have also edited our anti-virus settings (McAfee Enterprise) to exclude the following folders/files from real-time scanning:

C:\Program Files\Microsoft System Center 2012 R2\DPM\DPM\bin\dpmra.exe

C:\Program Files\Microsoft System Center 2012 R2\DPM\DPM\Temp\MTA

C:\Program Files\Microsoft System Center 2012 R2\DPM\DPM\XSD

I can't figure out what else could possibly be using those files or locking them to stop DPM from backing them up.  Any suggestions for what to look for next?

DPM Restore operation fails with error ID 265

I am getting following error when trying to restore file server backup to alternate location, it restores some of the files but is aborted during restore with following error: DPM encountered an error while reading from the recovery point used for recovery. Either the recovery point no longer exists or, if you selected a share for recovery, the path to its contents is missing from the recovery point. (ID 265 Details: The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable (0x80070570))

Technet article suggest to recover the data from another recovery point, but I am getting same error from other recovery points too. https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh859043.aspx There hasn’t been errors when making backups, regarding to DPM backups have been successful.

Server that I am trying to backup is Windows Server 2012 R2, with deduplication enabled on disk I am trying to backup. DPM Server is Windows Server 2012 R2 and DPM Server isDPM 2012 R2, so deduplication should be supported. Any ideas how to fix this issue and what is causing that?

DPM 2012 with SP1 - Windows Server 2012 R2 File Server with Deduplication Volumes Enabled Tape Backup

$

Hi,

We've been using DPM for many years and have now upgraded to DPM 2012 SP1 Rollup 7. We can happily backup our Windows Server 2012 R2 deduped data volumes and it works fine.

But, when we try to then do end of Month backup on to a Tape, it suddenly fails. The error message we get is :

"The Operation failed since DPM was unable to access the file/folder \\?\GLOBALROOT\Device\HarddiskVolumeShadowCopy33533\4876e0d9-0fbc-4b13-b8cd-a76a054e0eb3\Full\HappyDays\SmartDoc3.doc on  DPM01.domain.local. This could be due to the file/folder being corrupt or the file system on the volume being corrupt. (ID 2036 Details: The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable (0x80070570))"

I can confirm that there are no errors on the file system or file corruption as reported by Chkdsk and also as we can open/write to the same files both, from original disk location and DPM disk backup.

Yet, we can backup the same source files that it complains are corrupt if we disable data de-duplication on that volume?

Anyone come across this issue or can help with suggestion?

Kind regards,

Luthfur
